It looks as if you enjoyed last year's inaugural festival so much that you saved it through a successful Pozible campaign!! This year’s DAY OF THE DEAD we've moved to SEAROADS SHED at Macquarie Point!
We have an amazing line-up of music, both local and interstate, art and dance, parades, various food stalls and massive bars!
5 amazing MELBOURNE acts are flying down including:
Mexican Music Man - an early treat for the kiddies!
Funkalleros - A bit of Latin, a bit of Funk
Sin Frontera Band - Many amazing Mexican Mexicans!
The New Monos - Cumbia from the streets to make ya move your feet!
Saca la Mois DJ - Cumbia dynamite to take us into the night!
LOCAL Latin legends joining us are:
Chicada - Brazilian Samba beats
Carnaval de Oruro - Brass and percussion of the Andes yes please
Son Del Sur - 10-piece Salsa band to get your saucy salsa on
Chupacabra - Tassie Cumbia served with a side of spicy wallaby taco
In October of 2015, with a small army of friends and family, we ran the first Day of the Dead Festival on the rooftop of the Hobart Central Carpark.
This was an epic feat! In and out in 24 hours as if nothing had happened.
Local and interstate music abound, luscious local art courtesy of Art Hole, VJ Smucklepod projections, a raucous procession and Latin-themed food and drink! Much merriment for a day’s work!
Last year, for the first time in Tasmania, we hosted a platform for local musicians and artists to share their passions with the Tasmanian community. Chupacabra opened for Melbourne act, Madre Monte! This has opened many more doors. Carnaval de Oruro came together especially, parading through the car park with local dance group Dance Bonito.
VJ Smucklepod mapped his pleasurable projections and Art Hole gallery provided beautiful local Mexican-inspired art.
The Day of the Dead Festival celebrates the lives of the deceased; a Mexican tradition El Cuco intend to share with you year after year. On this day we can be closest to those no longer living. We celebrate by offering them food, drink, family and fun.
